Project Name:

Integrated Router Table & Fence

Start Date:

Aug. 2019

End Date:

Sept. 2019

Purpose:

Reduce and Reuse

Working in a small two car garage, the more tools that I acquired, the smaller the space became. I had to figure out a way to maximize my space. To start this process, I designed and built this integrated router table to fit seamlessly into my table saw. The goal was to increase the functionality of my workshop with a single, space-saving upgrade.

Project Overview

The goal of this project was to reduce the footprint of a stand alone router table in my workshop. This required a common sense, simple approach to the design, including materials, precise measurements, and careful planning to ensure the new wing would be a perfect fit and a true extension of the table saw.

Key Features & Details

Every detail was carefully considered to make this more than just a simple addition. The final result increased both the available floor space and shop efficiency.

  • A space-saving design that integrates into the table saw.
  • A dedicated fence for the router that allows for precise, repeatable cuts.
  • Built-in dust collection to keep the workspace clean.

Accuracy & Safety Matter

As with any custom build, there were a few unexpected challenges along the way that made the final result felt so rewarding.

  • Reuse and relocate the safety power switch.
  • Achieving a perfectly flat and level surface to the cast iron table saw top.
  • The new fence had to be able to attach/detach to the table saw's existing fence quickly.
